Members of UConn's Planning, Design, and Construction Team will join CSA for an update on current and future projects as well as an open discussion. The discussion will provide attendees an opportunity for interactive dialogue to improve overall communications and efficiencies when working on construction projects at UConn.
Meet uconn Speaker Laura Cruickshank
Laura Cruickshank, FAIA | Associate Vice President, Master Planner and Chief Architect
Laura Cruickshank joined the University of Connecticut (UConn) in February 2013. Ms. Cruickshank is responsible for the immediate and long-range planning, design and construction of the University’s $2.5 billion dollar Capital Improvement Plan, UConn 2000 and Next Generation CT programs for the Storrs and Regional Campuses and the Law School. Prior to joining UConn, Laura Cruickshank was the Yale University Planner and directed planning and design on the Yale central campus. Ms. Cruickshank led Yale planning for the new Yale-NUS College in Singapore representing the University in the planning, design and construction of the new liberal arts college. She collaborated with an international team of architects, and partnered with professional and administrative colleagues from the National University of Singapore. Prior to her tenure at Yale, Laura was in private practice for over twenty years. Ms. Cruickshank received her Bachelor of Arts degree from Mount Holyoke College in 1975 and her Master of Architecture degree from the University of New Mexico School of Architecture and Planning in 1980; she gave the Commencement address at the School in May 2016. Laura holds architectural registration in Connecticut and is an elected member of the College of Fellows of the American Institute of Architects (COF, AIA) and member of the Society for College and University Planning (SCUP), the Association of University Architects (AUA) and the National Organization of Minority Architects (NOMA). Ms. Cruickshank serves on the Construction Institute’s Board of Advisors and has served on various private boards and public commissions, including the General Services Administration peer review for the design of the new campus for the Department of Homeland Security. She has won numerous awards in recognition of her work. |
Meet UCONN SPEAKER Robert Corbett
Robert Corbett | Executive Director and Director of Real Estate and Regional Projects
Robert Corbett, Executive Director of Construction and Development for University Planning, Design and Construction, joined the University of Connecticut in October 2013. Mr. Corbett is responsible for large-scale construction projects for UCONN on both the main Storrs campus and the University’s four regional campuses as part of the $2 billion Capital Improvement Plan known as Next Generation CT. Mr. Corbett also overseas all real estate development activity for the University, including acquisitions, dispositions, leasing and turn-key development agreements.
Prior to joining UCONN, Robert Corbett was Director of Construction at Yale University. Mr. Corbett led Yale’s construction team on all athletic, residential and fine arts projects in New Haven Connecticut. Prior to his tenure at Yale, Robert has managed a national portfolio of large-scale construction and development projects over a 30 year career, including the $72 million renovation of the Marriott’s Frenchman’s Reef Resort in the US Virgin Islands, the $255 million Connecticut Convention Center, and the $90 million Marriott Convention Center renovation in Baltimore, MD.
Mr. Corbett holds two undergraduate degrees from the University of New Hampshire, one in Structural Civil Engineering and a second in Hotel and Business Administration. He also has a Masters in Real Estate Development from New York University and is a LEED Green Associate.
